Some Human Trafficking Statistics from Ohio

The following statistics are from 1997 over 10 years ago....this continues to be an ongoing problem across the world.  Don't think it can't happen to you or someone you know.

Here are some statistics from right here in Ohio.....

In Ohio, over the past seven years, the average age when a girl enters prostitution has decreased from 16 to 14. The demand for prostituted children is increasing, as men feel safer from AIDS with younger girls. 75 to 95% of all prostitutes were sexually abused as children. Many prostitutes are high school dropouts, come from poor and abusive homes, move from place to place and are alcoholics or drug addicts. (Debra Boyer, U. Washington, Susan Breault of the Paul & Lisa Program, "Danger for prostitutes increasing, most starting younger," Beacon Journal, 21 September 1997)

2,632 youths were reported missing, more than 60% of them are listed as endangered runaways, who often end up as prostitutes in Ohio in 1996. Attacks against prostitutes were increasing as of September 1997. (State Attorney General, "Danger for prostitutes increasing, most starting younger," Beacon Journal, 21 September 1997)

16.9 is the average age of entry into prostitution for girls. (Delancey Street Foundation, San Francisco, "The lost boys," Sarah McNaught, The Boston Phoenix, 23-30 October 1997)

14 years is the average age of entry into prostitution for boys, 25 years of age is the average age that men leave prostitution. Male prostitutes usually do not have pimps. (Sean Haley, Director, Adolescent Services, JRI Health, Boston, "The lost boys," Sarah McNaught, The Boston Phoenix, 23-30 October 1997)

Human Trafficking

Fellow blogger, Kristi Stephens, will be hosting Gillian Ferdwerda from Woman at Risk, International  (WAR) on her blog at KristiStephens.com. She will be sharing statistics, stories and Hope.  Please join Kristi for the next two weeks as she brings awareness to this subject.

This subject is especially close to my heart as we personally feel our granddaughter  - who has been missing for almost 3 years - may have fallen to become a victim of human trafficking.  She lived in an area overrun with gangs and drugs and was "in love" with a boy who could have easily lured her into this lifestyle.  The last confirmed sighting of her was at an apartment where a "Sugar Daddy" pimp lived.  Now we believe she could be anywhere from Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus to Detroit.

Please see our story at:          www.bringhomeashley.9f.com

Herb & Spice Chart

I had to share this resource - Herb & Spice Chart.  You look for the main ingredient in your dish and flavor it with the spice recommended.  I am so excited, since I love to "spice" things up when I cook and this will help guide me on which spices to use with which foods.

Thank you to Molly Green of Econobusters.com for leading me to this link via her "A Minute with Molly" newsletter I receive.  To sign up go to: http://www.econobusters.com/ under the "Sign Up for our Free Newsletter" headline on the right side of the page.
